Germany FinMin: Rumors Of Greece Bailout 'Absolutely Wrong'

BERLIN (MNI) - Germany's Finance Ministry Thursday denied media reports that it is actively considering plans to come to the rescue of Greece in collaboration with other eurozone member states.

"The rumors are absolutely wrong," German Finance Ministry spokesman Martin Kreienbaum told Market News International. "We are not working on such a plan."

French afternoon daily Le Monde reported today in its online edition that "different governments, including France and Germany, are studying, in concert with European institutions, the modalities of a financial support mechanism for Athens."

Earlier today German Economics Minister Rainer Bruederle reiterated his opposition to any bailout for financially troubled eurozone member states, arguing that each state has to assume its own responsibilities.

"There should not be a bailout or a joint solution for a national crisis," Bruederle stressed in a speech in parliament. "Each country has its own responsibilities; nobody can take them from them."
