Repeat: ECB To Discuss Greece's Budget Deficit Dec 17: Press

BERLIN (MNI) - Greece's ballooning public deficit will be discussed at the next Governing Council meeting of the European Central Bank on December 17, German weekly Der Spiegel reported over the weekend.

"The topic will be on the agenda," the magazine cited an unnamed source from Frankfurt as saying. That mid-December gathering will be the ECB's monthly non-monetary policy meeting.

According to Der Spiegel, a Bundesbank board member recently dismissed the notion that a bankruptcy of Greece's government could endanger the euro.

"What would happen anyhow if Greece did not repay its debt?" the unidentified Bundesbank board member was quoted in the article as saying. "The euro is strong enough to support that."
