UK Data: GfK Consumer Confidence Sees 1st Fall In Over A Year

LONDON (MNI) - UK consumer confidence has fallen for the first time in over a year, according to the latest GfK/NOP survey.

The survey showed a fall to -17 in November, from -13 in October, although it is still well above year-ago levels of -35. The major purchases index also slumped, to -19 from -12 in October.

Four out of five of the sub-components of the survey showed a fall, GFK/NOP said.

Confidence in the general economy over the past 12 months reversed to -59 in November from -53 in October.

The overall GFK/NOP Confidence index hit a record low of -39 in July 2008 and stood at -37 in January this year, before climbing to -25 in June. The latest result therefore marks a distinct setback in that improving trend.
