BRUSSELS (MNI) - France's Michel Barnier is set to press for more stringent bank regulation as the incoming internal markets commissioner on a new Commission team unveiled by European Commission President Jose Manual Barroso on Friday.

"Financial services in Europe have a lot to do with the deepening of the internal market," Barroso told reporters.

He said he was asking Barnier "to deepen the internal market in all of its aspects," adding that would lead to further growth in Europe.
