UAE Central Bank Gov: Will Continue to Peg to U.S. Dollar
FRANKFURT (MNI) - The United Arab Emirates will continue pegging its currency to the U.S. dollar and has no intention or desire to see oil denominated in any currency other than the greenback, UAE Central Bank Governor Sultan Bin Nasser Al-Suwaidi said Friday.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a conference here, Al-Suwaidi was asked if the UAE would consider changing its dollar peg. "No. We will continue to peg to the dollar," he replied.
Asked if the UAE would like to see oil denominated in a different currency, he said, "no." Then he elaborated: "We have no control over it," because it is determined by the markets. "And we do not intend to interfere with markets."
